Option 2: Microtechnologies, Architectures, Networks and Communication Systems

Telecom Bretagne is accredited to award this Research Master degree in "Electronics and Telecommunications" / specialization: "Microtechnologies, Architectures, Networks and Communication Systems" with the University of Rennes-I, the University of Southern Brittany (Brest), INSA-Rennes and Supelec (Rennes).

The Research Master on offer at Telecom Bretagne is made up of a Common Core and by a syllabus entitled "Architecture and Microtechnologies".

Objectives of the Course

This Research Masters degree is rooted in Brittany’s regional vocation as one of France’s major areas in the field of Electronics. It offers a wide-range of research-oriented activities in R&D Electronics.

This multidisciplinary approach to Electronics is made possible through the course’s location on various sites throughout the Region of Brittany : in Rennes, Brest and Lorient. Five different Universities have received co-accreditation to organize the course. Regional research centres also collaborate fully in opening their facilities to students registered on the course.

The main objectives of this Masters course are:

  • To provide an in-depth approach to the cutting-edge topics in Electronics

  • To provide methodological training to the professions of Research and Development (team work, project management)

  • To offer a wide range of opportunities for communication technologies and scientific expression using the English language (Bibliographical study, writing articles, giving oral presentations)

  • To encourage a certain amount of independence among the students by offering access to various new, learning tools

 

These objectives are also aimed at during the project-work which takes place in an R&D environment in the field of New Technologies, Networks and Communication Systems.

Course contents

The M2 (2nd year) course is made up of two semesters:

First Semester

 
The first semester, running from the beginning of October to mid-March, contains the following main classes :

  • A common core which brings together Electronics and Design, as well as a research-oriented approach

  • Coursework ranging from the electronic design of transistors, to chip-based systems to algorithms

  • Those students registered at the Centre in Brest will also benefit from a Seminar on Transmission Systems

Second Semester 

The second semester is made up of an internship:

  • The research project takes place within a company or in a public or private Research Laboratory in France or abroad

  • The topic chosen will be associated with a bibliographical study which enables the student to perform a well-structured personal research project. The topic must meet with the approval of the course supervisor.
