Pedro Casas is a PhD student in the Computers Department at Télécom Bretagne. He was awarded the "Best Conference Paper Award" at the IEEE/IFIP "6th Latin American Network Operations and Management Symposium" (LANOMS 2009) held in Punta del Este (Uruguay) from 19 to 21 October.
Samir Saoudi, a Professor in the Signal and Communication Department of Télécom Bretagne, has been promoted to Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
Xavier Lagrange, Professor and Director of the Networks, Security and Multimedia Department, has been promoted to Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
Gilbert Lainey, the Deputy Director of Télécom Bretagne, was promoted on 1st January 2009 to the rank of Commander in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, rewarding thirty years of dedicated work at the service of teaching at Télécom Bretagne.

Claude Berrou, a professor from the Electronics Department at TELECOM Bretagne, is promoted to the level of IEEE Fellow, in view of his invention of turbo codes and his involvement in the generalization of the principle of turbos and in standardization
Étienne Gallet de Santerre, a PHD student, and Laurent Toutain, a professor, both from the Optics Department of Télécom Bretagne (Rennes campus), were awarded the best article prize at the 6th Young Researchers in Information and Communication Science and Technologies.
The term of office of René Garello, full research professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Télécom Bretagne, has been extended.
2007
The French Science Academy has elected Claude Berrou, a Professor in the GET/ENST Bretagne Electronics Department, to join its ranks. Working with Alain Glavieux, Claude Berrou was the joint discoverer of turbocodes, a revolutionary coding method leading to spectacular leaps forward in digital communications development. The pair was awarded the Science Academy Grand Prix in 2003. In 2005, Claude Berrou was awarded the prestigious Marconi Prize in the US.
The Special Prize awarded by the Institute of Economic and Social Research on Telecommunications (IREST) has been won by Mathieu Guennec for his thesis entitled "The legal framework for Internet access services within the context of the general agreement on the sale of services on the basis of a comparative analysis between American and European laws / Le régime juridique des services d'accès à Internet dans le cadre de l'accord général sur le commerce des services sur la base d'une analyse comparée entre les droits américain et européen".
